What is this?A curated, categorized collection of well-known security resources — software, libraries, documents, books and other cool stuff — maintained by the community in the spirit of awesome-php and awesome-python.
How is the list organized? One big categorized index: sections for Network (scanning/pentesting, IDS/IPS, monitoring, honeypots, VPN, firewalls), Endpoint, Web, Threat Intelligence, Forensics, EBooks and more, each entry being a linked one-line description.
Is it more than just a directory of links? No — that is the whole point: you get a one-line blurb and a link per project, then go evaluate and try tools yourself. There are no ratings, tutorials or install guides on the page itself.
Which tools does it feature?Well-known names like Nmap, Metasploit, Kali Linux, OpenVAS, Snort, Suricata, Zeek, OSSEC, Fail2Ban, CrowdSec and Wazuh, each with a short blurb on what it does.
What does it cover beyond network tooling?Endpoint protection and forensics, web security (WAF, RASP), threat intelligence, social engineering, mobile security, SIEM, big data, DevOps and fraud prevention, plus EBooks and online resources sections.
How current is the collection? It has been around since 2014, sits at roughly 15,000 stars and is community-driven with a Contributing section, so entries come and go as contributors add them.
I am new to security — where do I even start here? There is no defined learning path, but the EBooks and online resources sections are the reading entry point, and the Kali Linux entry leads to a distro with popular pentesting tools preinstalled.
