Awesome Agent Skills Security Awesome

🛡️ A curated list of resources on securing AI agent tool use and skill ecosystems — attacks, defenses, frameworks, benchmarks, and standards.

AI agents increasingly use external tools, plugins, and skills to interact with the world. This creates a new attack surface: agent skills security. This list covers the threats, defenses, and research landscape for securing these capabilities.

What is this?A curated, awesome-list style collection of research papers, standards, frameworks, and benchmarks about securing AI agent tool use and the emerging 'agent skills' ecosystem — covering attacks like prompt injection and tool poisoning as well as defenses like sandboxing and permission control.
Is this a tool I install, or just a reading list?It is a plain markdown reading list of links to papers, standards bodies (OWASP, MITRE, NIST, IETF), and external tools — there is no software to run in this repo itself.
Does it include ready-to-use security tools, or mostly theory? There is a 'Tools & Frameworks' section, but the overwhelming majority of entries are academic papers, standards, and industry reports rather than installable security tooling.
What is the OWASP Agentic Skills Top 10 (AST10)?It's a new OWASP incubator standard (v1.0, 2026) that is the first standards-body enumeration of risks specific to agent skills, running from AST01 Malicious Skills to AST10 Cross-Platform Reuse, with AST01 and AST02 Supply Chain Compromise rated critical.
What kinds of attacks on agent skills does the list cover? It spans prompt injection (direct and indirect), tool poisoning and supply-chain compromise, privilege escalation and excessive agency, cross-plugin attacks, backdoors, agent deception, data exfiltration, and jailbreaking/guardrail bypass.
Does it cover MCP server security specifically?Yes — it includes papers like 'MCP-in-SoS: Risk Assessment Framework for Open-Source MCP Servers,' which assesses production risks of open-source Model Context Protocol server deployments.
Why treat 'agent skills security' as its own topic instead of general LLM security?Because agents now load external tools, plugins, and skills at runtime, creating risks like skill-supply-chain compromise that general LLM-security resources don't cover — reflected in the 2026 OWASP AST10 standard written specifically for the skill layer.
