About SecLists

SecLists is the security tester's companion. It's a collection of multiple types of lists used during security assessments, collected in one place. List types include usernames, passwords, URLs, sensitive data patterns, fuzzing payloads, web shells, and many more. The goal is to enable a security tester to pull this repository onto a new testing box and have access to every type of list that may be needed.

This project is maintained by Daniel Miessler, Jason Haddix, Ignacio Portal and g0tmi1k.

What is this?SecLists is a huge collection of ready-made wordlists for security testing: usernames, passwords, URLs, sensitive data patterns, fuzzing payloads, web shells and more, all gathered in one repository.
Is this a tool or just a collection of files? It is a static collection of text/list files, not an executable tool. You pull the repo and reference the files from your own tools (fuzzers, crackers, scanners).
How do I get these lists onto my machine?Download the repo as a Zip, or clone it with git (a shallow clone with no commit history is faster, or a full clone). It is also pre-installed as a tool package on Kali Linux and BlackArch.
Do I need any special software to use these lists? No, the lists are plain files; you just need whatever tool you plan to feed them into (e.g. a fuzzer, password cracker, or web scanner). Some helper scripts live in the .bin directory.
Any safety concerns with downloading this?Antivirus software may flag it as a false positive since it contains password and attack-pattern lists, and the maintainers warn against storing these files on a production server due to local file include risks.
How is the collection organized? It's split by list type: usernames, passwords, URLs/discovery paths, sensitive-data patterns, fuzzing payloads, web shells, and more, each in its own directory.
Are there related tools for generating custom wordlists? The README links companion tools like Cook, Wl, CeWL and Genoveva for building and mutating your own wordlists, plus generators/mutators in the repo's .bin folder.
Are the lists kept up to date?Yes, there are automated CI workflows that regularly update wordlists (e.g. API endpoints, combined directories/words) and the README itself.
Are there similar projects if SecLists does not fit my need? The README lists alternatives such as Assetnote Wordlists, fuzz.txt, FuzzDB, PayloadsAllTheThings, BiblePass, and SamLists.
