During installation, you need to confirm some actions, also contains:

Usual installation (Old theme)

During installation, you need to confirm some actions, also contains:

  • Forced installation of version 1.2.13 (since the old theme was removed in subsequent versions)
  • Old theme activated
  • Automatic blocking of Spotify updates
  • All experimental features included

Just download and run Install_Old_theme.bat

Full installation

Full installation without confirmation, what does it do?

  • New theme activated (new right and left sidebar, some cover change)
  • Hiding podcasts/episodes/audiobooks from the homepage
  • Activated static theme spotify for lyrics
  • Hiding ad-like sections
  • All experimental features included
  • Removal of Spotify MS if it was found
  • Installation of the recommended version of Spotify (if another client has already been found, it will be installed over)
  • Blocking of Spotify updates
  • After the installation is completed, the client will autorun.

What is this?SpotX is a patcher for the official Spotify desktop client on Windows: it blocks banner, video and audio ads and changes some hidden client features. It ships as a set of install scripts you run once.
How do I patch my Spotify client with it?Download the release and run one of the .bat installers, e.g. InstallNewtheme.bat, or paste the PowerShell command from the README. The script patches your existing client and asks you to confirm a few actions along the way.
What do I need to have installed before running it?Windows 7 through 11, the official desktop Spotify (the Microsoft Store version will not work) and PowerShell 5.1 or newer.
I installed Spotify from the Microsoft Store — will it work?No, SpotX only supports the official desktop client. The full auto install even removes a Microsoft Store Spotify if it finds one and installs the recommended version over your current client.
What does it do about telemetry?As part of the patch, analytics sending in the Spotify client is disabled.
Is there any catch to using it?The repo is MIT-licensed, but the README disclaimer says SpotX modifies the official Spotify client and is provided as an evaluation version, so you use it at your own risk.
What is the difference between the four install modes?New theme is the default install with the refreshed sidebar UI; old theme restores the classic look but forces Spotify 1.2.13, since that UI was removed in later versions. The full install runs without prompts and also hides podcasts and blocks updates, while the premium install skips ad blocking for paid accounts.
What else changes besides the ads disappearing?Optionally it hides podcasts, episodes and audiobooks from the homepage, enables all experimental features, and disables analytics. The new theme itself changes the left and right sidebars and some cover art.
