Welcome to the PaddlePaddle GitHub.

PaddlePaddle, as the first independent R&D deep learning platform in China, has been officially open-sourced to professional communities since 2016. It is an industrial platform with advanced technologies and rich features that cover core deep learning frameworks, basic model libraries, end-to-end development kits, tools & components as well as service platforms. PaddlePaddle originates from industrial practices with dedication and commitments to industrialization. It has been widely adopted by a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, enterprise service, and so on while serving more than 23.33 million developers, 760,000 companies and generating 1,100,000 models. With such advantages, PaddlePaddle has helped an increasing number of partners commercialize AI.

What is this?PaddlePaddle is an open-source deep learning platform — China's first independently developed one, open-sourced since 2016 — spanning a core framework, model libraries, end-to-end dev kits and service platforms.
Is this one framework, or a whole ecosystem of tools? An entire ecosystem rather than a single library: a core deep learning framework plus basic model libraries, end-to-end development kits, tools and components, and service platforms.
How do I install it, and what's the latest release? The latest stable release is 3.3, with nightly builds also offered; the README points to a Quick Install guide for the step-by-step commands, and Python is the usual entry point.
I don't read Chinese — is the project usable for me?Yes. Documentation ships in both English and Chinese, and the repo README itself is bilingual, so English-only users are covered.
Is it tied to one chip vendor, or does it run on other hardware too?It is not tied to one vendor: a heterogeneous multi-chip adaptation layer hides the differences between chip software stacks behind standardized, pluggable interfaces. On the OS side, CI covers Linux and Windows.
My model doesn't fit on one GPU — do I have to hand-write the distributed setup? No. You start from a single-card configuration and add only minimal tensor partitioning annotations; the framework then automatically discovers an efficient distributed parallel strategy.
How widely is PaddlePaddle actually used? The README reports over 23.33 million developers, 760,000 companies and 1.1 million models generated, with adoption across sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and enterprise services.
What does the built-in neural network compiler do?It is an integrated compiler path supporting efficient training and flexible inference for diverse models, including generative and scientific computing ones, balancing flexibility with high performance and lowering optimization costs.
Is it only for big companies, or good for solo learners too?The stated vision is to enable deep learning for everyone via PaddlePaddle, and the docs start from deep learning basics — a solo learner is a first-class user.
