What is this?Dawarich is a self-hostable web app that replaces Google Timeline: it tracks your location history, shows it on an interactive map, and analyzes your travels.
Is this an app on my phone, or something I run myself? It's a web app you host on your own server (Docker is the standard way) and open in a browser; your phone just sends location points to it via a tracking app.
How do I get it running?Clone the repository and run the Docker command from the README, then open the app in your browser and log in with the defaults ([email protected] / safepassword) — change them in account settings.
Besides the server, do I need anything on my phone?Yes, a tracking app: Dawarich's own iOS and Android apps, or Overland, OwnTracks, GPSLogger, PhoneTrack or Home Assistant, all configured to send points to your instance.
Can I just let it auto-update, or are there gotchas?Don't: it's under active development with frequent breaking changes. Read release notes before updating, back up first, and never delete your original data after importing.
Who can see my location history?Everything stays on your own server. Family sharing is opt-in — each member enables or disables it individually — and you can export all your data to GeoJSON or GPX anytime.
Can it show my photos on the map?Yes — enter your Immich or Photoprism credentials (both work) and Dawarich automatically imports geodata from your photos, puts them on the map, and shows them inside trips.
What are Areas and Visits?Areas are regions you draw on the map so Dawarich can suggest your visits there; Visits (beta) are places it proposes you've been, which you confirm or reject.
What if I don't want to self-host anything? There's Dawarich Cloud — the managed version where everything is hosted for you, while this GitHub project remains the self-hostable edition.
