wechat-article-exporter (wechat-article/wechat-article-exporter)
Searching Database…
What is this?
An open-source batch downloader for WeChat Official Account articles: search any account by keyword and export its posts, including read counts and comment data.
Is this a website I visit, or a program I have to install?
A web app you used in the browser with zero local setup, not a desktop program. The same app could also be deployed privately with Docker or on Cloudflare.
Can I still use it today?
No — maintenance stopped on 2026-07-30: WeChat shut down the upstream interfaces the whole tool depended on, and out-of-the-box bulk sync can't be fixed in code. The hosted site's domain expires 2026-10-30, so export what you need before then; articles already synced remain on your device.
Did I need my own WeChat account to use it, and was that safe?
Yes — you logged in by scanning a QR code with your own WeChat Official Account. The author pledged your account would never be used to crawl for others or pooled; it only served your own downloads.
How did it fetch articles without an official WeChat API?
It exploited a feature of the Official Account backend: while writing a post, editors can search other accounts' published articles, and the tool rode that search to enumerate a target account's entire history.
What exactly could it export?
Articles as html/json/excel/txt/md/docx — the HTML export bundles images and styles so posts render 100% identical to the original — plus comments, comment replies, read counts and share counts. The metrics part required packet-capturing your own credentials first.
What happens to the repository now?
It stays online as a read-only archive: code, docs and issue discussions remain in place, so anyone can still read, fork, learn from it or build on it. There will be no new releases, and new issues or PRs are no longer accepted.
What is GongHaoSanDao (公号三刀), the author's other project?
A sister tool for WeChat Official Accounts hit by the same interface shutdown: it can no longer bulk-sync an account's history, but read-count and comment scraping still works there, along with grabbing a few non-mass-posted articles.
