What is this?SpotiFLAC lets you grab Spotify tracks in true lossless FLAC quality by pulling the actual audio from Tidal, Qobuz or Amazon Music instead of Spotify's own lossy streams, and it works without ever logging into any account.
Is this a desktop app, a CLI, or a browser tool? It's a native desktop application built with the Wails framework (Go backend plus a TypeScript/web-based UI), not a command-line tool or browser extension.
How do I get it running?Download the prebuilt executable from the repo's Download section and run it directly — there's no login, registration or subscription step, just an internet connection.
Do I need a Spotify account or API key to use it?No account or API key is needed. Track metadata is obtained by reverse-engineering the Spotify Web Player, and the actual audio is fetched separately from third-party Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon Music APIs.
Any gotchas I should know about before trying it?Metadata fetching can fail if your IP gets rate-limited, in which case you wait or use a VPN; also, some antivirus tools (including Windows Defender) may falsely flag or delete the executable because it's UPX-compressed — you can build from source yourself if that bothers you.
Is there a mobile version too?The main repo is a Windows desktop build; a separate Android & iOS app exists but is maintained independently by a different community contributor, not by the core SpotiFLAC team.
Can using this get my Spotify account banned? No — the app never logs into or touches your Spotify account; it only reads public metadata from the Spotify Web Player, so there's nothing tied to your login to flag.
What other versions or spin-offs of SpotiFLAC exist? The author also runs 'SpotiFLAC Next' (adds Deezer support) and 'SpotubeDL.com' for MP3/OGG/Opus downloads, while the community separately maintains Android/iOS and Python-module ports.
Is this an official Spotify product? No. SpotiFLAC is an unaffiliated third-party tool, not endorsed by or connected to Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz or Amazon Music, and is meant for educational and private use only per the project's disclaimer.
Where does metadata and lyrics info come from?It pulls from external services credited in the README: MusicBrainz, LRCLIB, Songlink/Odesli, Songstats, hifi-api and Qobuz-DL.
