End-to-end memory infrastructure for AI.

Give agents, copilots, applications, and workflows persistent memory that survives sessions, context windows, and model changes.

## Why Memory

AI systems are powerful inside their current context window, but that context is temporary. Important decisions, user preferences, previous interactions, and learned knowledge disappear between sessions.

A larger prompt is not the same as memory.

Real memory must be:

MemCode is building this layer as infrastructure rather than another temporary context workaround.

Development

Prerequisites

Install dependencies

npm install

Configure the environment

Copy the provided environment template:

cp .env.example .env.local

Update the values for your local or hosted environment. Do not commit production credentials or private keys.

Start development

npm run dev

Create a production build

npm run build

Validation

Run the focused dashboard checks with:

npm run test:byok-usage
npm run test:runtime-settings

The production build also runs TypeScript validation before generating the Vite bundle.

Deployment

The dashboard is configured for deployment through Cloudflare:

npm run build
npx wrangler deploy

Production environment variables should be configured through the deployment platform rather than committed to the repository.

The primary dashboard is available at app.memcode.in.

Project Status

MemCode is under active development. APIs, interfaces, and infrastructure may evolve as we improve retrieval quality, memory evaluation, integrations, and developer experience.

We are building toward a world where every AI system can remember selectively, retrieve reliably, and improve continuously.

Building memory infrastructure for AI, end to end.

What is this?MemCode is memory infrastructure for AI: it gives agents, copilots, applications and workflows persistent memory that survives sessions, context windows, and even model changes.
Is this a library I import, or a hosted platform? It is a memory infrastructure layer with its own dashboard app (app.memcode.in) that other agents, copilots and apps connect to for storing and retrieving memory, rather than a simple in-process library.
How do I get the dashboard running locally?Clone the repo, install dependencies with npm, copy the provided environment template and fill in your own values, then start the dev server; the production build runs TypeScript validation before generating a Vite bundle.
Do I need anything besides Node.js and npm?Just Node.js and npm as prerequisites, plus your own environment variables configured locally - production credentials or private keys should never be committed.
Is this ready for production use right now?No, MemCode is still under active development, so its APIs, interfaces and infrastructure may change as the team improves retrieval quality, memory evaluation, integrations and developer experience.
Who controls access to the memories it stores?MemCode is designed to be governed with explicit access and retention controls rather than leaving stored memories open-ended.
Why not just use a bigger context window instead of this?A larger prompt only extends what one session can see; MemCode's memory persists across sessions, context windows and even model changes, so agents keep decisions and preferences long after a conversation ends.
What does 'selective' memory mean for MemCode?Instead of logging everything, the system is built to decide what deserves to be remembered, so retrieval stays focused on important decisions and learned knowledge rather than noise.
How can stored memories be retrieved?Memory is queryable through both semantic retrieval (search by meaning) and structured retrieval (search by fields), and it is meant to be inspectable by the people operating the system.
Is MemCode open source?Yes, the repository is released under the MIT license, though the main way to use it today is the hosted dashboard at app.memcode.in.
