What is this?
Concat is a free, open-source, cross-platform video editor built as a CapCut alternative, with no watermark, no account and no subscription.
Is this a desktop app like CapCut, or a web-based editor?
It's a native desktop and mobile app, not a web editor: everything runs on a native Rust engine with a GPU compositor, so footage never has to touch a browser or a server.
How do I get it running?
Download the right build from the Concat website (it auto-detects your machine) or pick one from GitHub Releases, install it, drop in your footage and start cutting - no account or setup screens.
Do I need to sign up or pay for anything before I can use the AI features?
No - captions, text-to-speech, voice cloning and background removal all run on AI models you download once from Settings, and they work offline after that, with no account or paywall anywhere.
Is it stable enough for real editing work right now?
Concat is explicitly in beta - it works but 'still has edges,' and some platform builds are marked as work-in-progress or still to be tested rather than fully supported.
Does it run on phones too, or just desktop?
It runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and Android; iOS/iPadOS is also usable but only via sideloading since it isn't in the App Store.
Where does my footage go when I use features like auto-captions or cutout?
Nowhere - all processing happens on your machine and nothing is uploaded; even crash logs stay local unless you manually attach them to a bug report.
Can scripts or AI agents drive the editor instead of a person?
Yes, Concat exposes JSON-RPC, gRPC and MCP APIs plus a CLI, so scripts and AI agents can automate cuts just like a human editor would.
What can it export to?
H.264, HEVC and AV1, up to 4K at 60fps with 10-bit color, so footage is ready for YouTube, TikTok or Shorts straight out of the app.
Does voice cloning require recording a lot of audio?
No, you can clone a voice from just a few seconds of a sample, or use the built-in free local voices - both run fully offline.
How many effects does it ship with?
Over 170 GPU-rendered effects, filters, transitions and text animations, all visible live in the preview as you edit.
What are similar projects?
autoclip, Drift, ffmpeg-skill, VideoHighlighter, ALH-Pro, shrimply, filmcraft, pyvideotrans
