kindergrimm README

The project's README from github.com/albertobeiz/kindergrimm. As one markdown file: README.md.

drawai

Procedural doodle characters, drawn as if by hand on cream paper, rigged one part per bone so they can be animated and used later in games.

Adding a part type? Read ARCHITECTURE.md.

python3 serve.py

How it fits together

A face is a recipe: {seed, media, color, parts:{...}}. It is the only state — the same JSON always redraws the same face, so a face can be saved, shared and rebuilt inside a game at runtime.

License

Public domain, under the Unlicense — use it anywhere, for anything, no strings. Attribution is not required, but a link back is always appreciated.

Searching Database…

What is this?A procedural generator that draws hand-sketched doodle characters directly on canvas, rigs each one bone-by-bone for animation, and wraps them into several small browser games and tools under the name Kindergrimm.
Is this one game, or a bunch of separate things? It's a menu (index.html) linking to several independent HTML pages: a character editor, a crowd viewer, a toy-item sheet, and three stand-alone games (Orla, Kindergrimm, Marbles).
How do I run it?Everything is static HTML and JavaScript, so you just open index.html in a browser — there's no build step or server required.
Do I need to install any packages first? No. The project has no package dependencies, Docker setup, or build tooling — it runs purely from the HTML/JS/canvas files.
Can I jump straight from one game to another? No — index.html is the only hub and no scene links to any other scene, so you have to go back to the menu to switch between the editor, crowd page, and the three games.
What are the license terms? It's public domain under the Unlicense — you can use it anywhere for anything, with no attribution required (though a link back is appreciated).
What is Orla?A class-photo mini-game: you pick five of ten children, and the resulting group photo is scored like a poker hand.
What is Marbles?A physics-style duel on an icy board where you pull back one of your three living marbles and release it to crush, hook, or fight anything it collides with until it melts.
How is a character actually stored and reused? Each character is a plain recipe object — {seed, media, color, parts} — so the exact same JSON always redraws the identical face, letting it be saved, shared, or rebuilt live inside a game.
Can I add new creature parts myself?Yes — new part types are added as data files under src/parts/ and registered in parts/index.js; the generic rig.js system knows nothing about specific parts, so it never needs touching. See ARCHITECTURE.md for details.
