What is this?
A screensaver for macOS that plays the Apple TV Aerial Views — the aerial footage Apple TV is known for — right on your desktop.
Is it a standalone app, or a screensaver I add to macOS?
A system screensaver, not an app: the original builds are .saver plugins, and the 4.0 rewrite turned it into an App Extension that macOS hosts inside an app.
So how do I get it on my Mac today?
Install Aerial.app — the current screensaver ships bundled inside it, replacing the old separate updater.
Any catch before I grab it from this repository?
Yes — this is the historical .saver version of the project, so code from here will not give you the current v4.0+ experience.
Is it free to use and modify?
Yes, it is MIT-licensed, so you can use, modify and redistribute it freely.
What will I actually see when the screensaver kicks in?
Apple's aerial footage from Apple TV — the views the device shows while idle — playing fullscreen on your Mac.
What happened to Aerial Companion?
It was the old updater app; after the 4.0 rewrite it took over hosting the screensaver itself and was renamed Aerial.app for simplicity.
How long has this project been around?
The repository dates back to October 2015, so the project is over a decade old.
