What is this?
A service that monitors a huge number of package repositories and aggregates software package version data, reporting new releases and packaging problems. This repo is a gradual Rust rewrite of all Repology components.
What components does the repository contain?
Three: repology-common with shared code like data classes and database queries, repology-webapp as the backend of the web site, and repology-vulnupdater for vulnerability data.
What do I need to build and run it?
The code requires the latest Rust nightly toolchain; the README lists no other requirements or build steps.
Is repology.org itself already running on this code?
Largely yes: the Rust webapp is in active development but already serves most of repology.org traffic, and the vulnerability updater is complete. The rewrite is gradual, so expect work in progress.
Is Repology mainly for package maintainers, or for regular users too?
Both: maintainers can spot packaging problems across repositories, and anyone can use it to track new releases of software they care about.
Is Repology free to use?
Yes — the source is licensed GPLv3 or later, so it can be used and self-hosted freely.
