InfluxDB 3 Core

InfluxDB 3 Core

Open source time series database for real-time events, analytics, and monitoring--powered by Apache Arrow, DataFusion, and Parquet.

License: MIT/Apache-2.0 Discord

InfluxDB 3 Core is a database built to collect, process, transform, and store event and time series data. It is ideal for use cases that require real-time ingest and fast query response times to build user interfaces, monitoring, and automation solutions.

Common use cases include:

InfluxDB is optimized for scenarios where near real-time data monitoring is essential and queries need to return quickly to support user experiences such as dashboards and interactive user interfaces.

InfluxDB 3 Core’s feature highlights include:

Storage format: Apache Parquet on object storage (S3, Azure, GCP) or local disk
Query languages: SQL, InfluxQL, Flight SQL
Write format: Line protocol
API: HTTP on port 8181
Built with: Rust, Apache Arrow, DataFusion
Compatible with: InfluxDB 1.x and 2.x write APIs, InfluxDB 1.x query API (InfluxQL)

Other InfluxDB Versions

This repository contains multiple InfluxDB versions on separate branches:

What is this?InfluxDB 3 Core is an open source time series database built to collect, process, transform, and store event and time series data, written in Rust on top of Apache Arrow, DataFusion, and Parquet.
Is it a database server I deploy, or a library I embed in my app? It's a standalone server you deploy, not a library — you run it as a service and talk to it over an HTTP API on port 8181.
Does it need other services running, like object storage? No — it persists Parquet files to plain local disk with zero dependencies, though it can also write to object storage on S3, Azure, or GCP.
What do people typically use it for?Common use cases are monitoring sensor data, server monitoring, application performance monitoring, network monitoring, financial market and trading analytics, and behavioral analytics.
How is v3 different from the InfluxDB 2.x I might already run?The query engine changed: v3 Core speaks SQL (plus FlightSQL and InfluxQL), while the v2.x branch uses Flux. v3 is also a Rust rewrite built on Apache Arrow, DataFusion, and Parquet.
Is it production-ready or still experimental? It's generally available: InfluxDB 3 Core reached GA in April 2025, and the v3 tags carry the latest release notes.
