💻 System Requirements

📝 Usage

  1. Launch OpenSpeedy
  2. Run the target game you want to speed up
  1. Select the game process and adjust the speed multiplier in the OpenSpeedy interface
  1. Takes effect immediately — see the comparison below

🔧 How It Works

Prerequisites:

Build command:

npm run tauri dev

OpenSpeedy adjusts game speed by hooking the following Windows system time functions:

Function Library Purpose
Sleep user32.dll Thread sleep
SetTimer user32.dll Creates message-based timers
timeGetTime winmm.dll Retrieves system uptime in milliseconds
GetTickCount kernel32.dll Retrieves system uptime in milliseconds
GetTickCount64 kernel32.dll Retrieves system uptime in milliseconds (64-bit)
QueryPerformanceCounter kernel32.dll High-resolution performance counter
GetSystemTimeAsFileTime kernel32.dll Retrieves system time
GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime kernel32.dll Retrieves high-precision system time
SetWaitableTimer kernel32.dll Sets a waitable timer
SetWaitableTimerEx kernel32.dll Sets a waitable timer (extended)

What is this?OpenSpeedy is an open-source game speed controller for Windows: you pick a running game's process, set a speed multiplier, and the change takes effect immediately.
Is it a mod I install into my games, or a separate app?A separate desktop app — you launch OpenSpeedy first, run the game, then select the game's process and set the speed multiplier in the OpenSpeedy window.
Do I need to install anything else to run it?No — Windows 10+ is all an everyday user needs. Node.js 18+, Rust, CMake and Visual Studio are only required if you build it from source.
Is it safe to use in online games? Not really — some online games have anti-cheat, and using a speed modifier there may get your account banned; the author advises against competitive online games.
Does it run on macOS or Linux too, or Windows only?Windows only — it requires Windows 10 or later — but it handles both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) game processes.
How does a separate app actually change a game's speed? It hooks the Windows time functions games rely on — Sleep, SetTimer, timeGetTime, GetTickCount, QueryPerformanceCounter and others — at Ring-3 level, so the game's internal clock runs faster without any kernel intrusion.
Any other risks besides anti-cheat bans?Excessive speed can glitch or crash a game's physics engine, and since the open-source builds carry no digital signature, antivirus software may flag them as false positives. The project is explicitly framed as educational and research software.
