What is this?
Open Lovable is a chat-driven tool that lets you point it at any website and have an AI rebuild it as a modern React app in seconds. It's an open-source example app built by the Firecrawl team to show off AI-powered site cloning.
Is this a hosted product or something I run myself?
It's a self-hosted Next.js example app you clone and run on your own machine, not a managed service. For a fully managed cloud version of the same idea, the README points to Lovable.dev.
How do I get it running?
Clone the repository, install dependencies, add your API keys to a .env.local file, then start the dev server.
What API keys do I need to set up?
You need a Firecrawl API key to scrape the target website, an E2B API key for the sandboxed code execution that previews the generated React app, and a key for at least one AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Groq).
Is this the same thing as Lovable.dev?
No, this is a smaller open-source demo built by the Firecrawl team to show the concept, not Firecrawl's or Lovable's full commercial product.
How does it actually turn a website into React code?
It uses Firecrawl to scrape and parse the target site's structure and content, then an AI model generates equivalent React components, which run and render via an E2B sandboxed code interpreter.
Which AI models can I use?
The project ships with AI SDK integrations for Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Groq, so you can pick whichever provider you have a key for.
What UI components does the generated app use?
It relies on Radix UI primitives (accordion, dialog, checkbox, avatar, etc.) as the building blocks for the React apps it generates.
Which topics is it in?
code-execution, groq, code-generation, web-scraping, sandbox, nextjs, gemini, generative-ai, anthropic, sdk, web-app, openai
