What is this?
Dotfiles for Hyprland, a Wayland compositor on Linux — technically configuration files, but in practice a custom graphical shell: status bar, widgets, app overview, all styled after Material Design 3.
Is this a full distro, or what exactly am I installing?
Not a distro and not a system setup script — it won't install graphic drivers or set up zram. You install configuration files, and with them mostly a custom graphical shell on top of Hyprland.
How do I get it running?
Run the install script with bash, following the wiki. Installation is transparent: every command is displayed before it runs, so you always see what happens to your system.
What does my system need first?
Linux with Hyprland (the compositor that manages and renders your windows) and Quickshell, a QtQuick-based widget system powering the status bar and sidebars. The remaining dependencies are listed in deps-info.md.
Any gotchas I should know about before installing or updating?
The Hyprland 0.55 update: if your distro has not shipped it and you are not ready, switch to the Pre-Hyprland Luaification release or hold off on updating — the wiki explains how.
Can I copy the look for my own rice?
Yes — copying the design is explicitly welcomed as long as you follow the license. The project is GPL-3.0.
Which widget system powers the UI, and was it always this one?
The current style runs on Quickshell and is the only supported one. Older looks are unsupported: illogical-impulse ran on AGS, while m3ww, NovelKnock, Hybrid and Windoes used EWW — their sources are kept in the ii-ags and archive branches.
What inspired the different styles?
The current design follows Material Design 3. Earlier ones drew from osu!lazer (the Hybrid style), Windows 11 (Windoes) and AvdanOS (NovelKnock), with m3ww and later also based on Material Design 3.
