What your agent can do once newsjack is installed

Four problems, separate lanes.

Each capability is a skill. Invoke it by name — /angle-generator, /fact-check — or just describe what you want and your agent picks the right one.

🛰️ Detect — surface what matters in your space

🚀 Act — turn signal into output

🧭 Strategize — figure out what your story even is

🔬 AI visibility — get your facts into AI answers (AEO/GEO)

Who this is for

Install

Newsjack is a set of open skills — plain-Markdown instructions your agent reads — plus a small open-source CLI. Most skills run anywhere your agent runs. A few reach for a live news index, journalist enrichment, media list research, or locally-saved monitoring state — those work best in a local agent.

Legend:

pr-calendar is setup-required but portable: it works anywhere the agent can use the newsjack CLI or a connected Medialyst MCP/connector. The calendar endpoint is free; login is required only to prevent abuse. Consumer ChatGPT is the exception for now because of the same skill-loading limitation called out above.

Set up your agent:

Local agents (Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, OpenClaw)

Technical? One line on macOS / Linux (review install.sh first if you like):

curl -fsSL newsjack.sh | bash

Not technical? 📋 Copy this prompt to any AI:

help me setup https://newsjack.sh

It reads the guide and handles the rest — npm fallback, Windows, credentials — on any platform.

Claude.ai & Cowork

Install the Newsjack plugin:

  1. Open Customize.
  2. Go to Personal plugins.
  3. Click Create plugin.
  4. Choose Add marketplace.
  5. Choose Add from a repository.
  6. In the repository URL field, enter elvisun/newsjack and confirm.
  7. Open the new elvisun/newsjack marketplace, find the newsjack@newsjack plugin, and click Install.
  8. (Optional) Unlock the 🔧 skills by connecting a Medialyst account so your agent can access live news search, PR calendar lookup, journalist enrichment, and approval-gated media list research. In local agent harnesses, run newsjack login and approve the printed Medialyst link. If you don't have an account you can create a free one on the Medialyst signup page.
  9. (Optional) Back in Claude, find the Medialyst connector under the installed Newsjack plugin page, click Connect on the Medialyst connector and authorize it over OAuth.

For project setup in a local Claude Code plugin install, start with newsjack auth status, then run newsjack login if it says project tools are not enabled before asking the agent to create or open a Medialyst project, add project memory, or upload project files.

Note: A community marketplace plugin, newsjack@claude-community, is pending review and will be added soon.

The two always-on monitors run here in ⚠️ Limited Mode — a best-effort, one-shot scan with nothing saved. For saved, scheduled monitoring, use a local agent.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT runs Newsjack only in a degraded ⚠️ form, because Skills aren't available on consumer accounts. For the full toolkit, use ChatGPT Work or OpenAI's Codex.

ChatGPT Work

ChatGPT Work has the Skills beta, so Newsjack runs there at the same level as Cowork: everything except the two setup skills and press-clip, which need a local agent.

What gets installed

~/.newsjack/
├── bin/newsjack # CLI
└── newsjack/ # managed bundle

skills installed to your detected runtime(s):
newsworthiness-check score whether your news clears the bar
headline-generator headlines and subject lines from raw story facts
find-journalists build small, fit-checked journalist lists
  ...and more

The npm package bundles the same CLI and skills, with the newsjack command installed on PATH.

Curl-installed Newsjack auto-updates from the latest GitHub Release before each run. Set NEWSJACK_AUTO_UPDATE=0 to disable.

You can also install the CLI by itself using npm:

npm i -g newsjack@latest

What is this?Newsjack is a set of open-source 'skills' (plain-Markdown instructions your agent reads) plus a small CLI that turns an AI coding agent into a full PR team — spotting newsjacking opportunities, drafting pitches, fact-checking claims, and tracking press coverage.
Is this an app, or something my agent reads? It's not a standalone app — it's a bundle of plain-Markdown skill files that an existing AI agent (like Claude Code or Codex) reads and invokes by name, backed by a small open-source CLI written in Go for live data and local state.
Which agents does it actually work with? It's built for local agents — Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, OpenClaw — and also runs inside Claude.ai, Cowork, and ChatGPT Work (Skills beta); consumer ChatGPT only gets a degraded pass since it has no Skills support.
Do all the skills work the same everywhere? No — in browser chat apps most skills run in a one-shot 'Limited Mode' with nothing saved between sessions (no stored voice fingerprint, no scheduled monitoring), while press-clip and the two setup skills need a local agent entirely because they drive a real browser or save local config.
Who is this built for?Founders doing their own PR, PR agencies juggling more accounts than staff can handle, and marketers at small companies who need leverage instead of extra headcount.
What is the AI-visibility (AEO/GEO) toolkit for?A chain of skills led by /build-ai-visibility-panel turns a public URL and company description into an evidence-bound panel of test prompts across buyer intent, journey stage, and brand proximity, used to track whether your facts actually show up in AI answers without faking a score.
What does the /press-clip skill do?It turns a live article URL into a branded PDF press clip that keeps the outlet's own logo and layout while stripping ads and highlighting the client's mention; because it drives a real Chrome/Edge browser via Playwright, it only runs in local agents.
Is there a cost to use Newsjack? The CLI and skills are free and open-source; a few skills need a connected Medialyst account for live news search, journalist enrichment, and media-list research, and Medialyst offers a free signup.
What's different about running it in Claude Code versus Claude.ai?Claude Code, as a local agent, runs every skill fully including setup skills and press-clip's browser automation, while Claude.ai and Cowork run most skills but put the always-on monitors into a one-shot Limited Mode with nothing saved between sessions.
