neofetch

Neofetch is a command-line system information tool written in bash 3.2+. Neofetch displays information about your operating system, software and hardware in an aesthetic and visually pleasing way.

The overall purpose of Neofetch is to be used in screen-shots of your system. Neofetch shows the information other people want to see. There are other tools available for proper system statistic/diagnostics.

The information by default is displayed alongside your operating system's logo. You can further configure Neofetch to instead use an image, a custom ASCII file, your wallpaper or nothing at all.

neofetch

You can further configure Neofetch to display exactly what you want it to. Through the use of command-line flags and the configuration file you can change existing information outputs or add your own custom ones.

Neofetch supports almost 150 different operating systems. From Linux to Windows, all the way to more obscure operating systems like Minix, AIX and Haiku. If your favourite operating system is unsupported: Open up an issue and support will be added.

What is this?Neofetch is a command-line system information tool written in bash 3.2+. It displays your operating system, software and hardware info in an aesthetic, visually pleasing way, next to your OS logo.
Is this a serious diagnostics tool or more of a showpiece?More of a showpiece: it deliberately shows the information other people want to see, and the README itself points to other tools for proper system statistics and diagnostics.
How do I get it running? It is a single bash script: follow the Dependencies and Installation guides in the project wiki (linked from the README) for your OS, then run 'neofetch' in a terminal.
Do I need anything besides bash installed?Bash 3.2+ is the stated requirement, so most Unix-like systems already qualify; beyond that, the README links a Dependencies page with per-OS details for optional features.
Is the project still maintained? No — the repo has been archived on GitHub, so it is read-only: no further updates, and the README's offer to add support for missing OSes via issues no longer applies.
Which operating systems can it run on?Almost 150 of them: Linux, Windows, macOS and BSD, all the way down to obscure systems like Minix, AIX and Haiku. The README says to open an issue if your favourite OS is unsupported.
Can I customize what it shows and swap the OS logo for something else?Yes — command-line flags and the config file let you change existing outputs or add your own custom ones, and the logo can be replaced with an image, a custom ASCII file, your wallpaper, or nothing at all.
