What is this?
It's a full decompilation of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver for the Nintendo DS, reconstructing the entire games in source code form.
Is this a ROM hack or a full source reconstruction?
It's a complete decompilation, not a patch or hack: the entire game logic is written in C/C++ and compiles into ROMs that are byte-for-byte identical to the originals.
How do I build the ROMs?
Build setup and instructions are documented separately in the repo's INSTALL.md file.
Can I send changes back to pret's original project?
No. This is an unaffiliated fork built with LLM agents, and pret does not accept AI-generated code or want association with it, so contributions should stay in this repo.
How can I verify my build is accurate?
The repo publishes SHA1 checksums for both output ROMs (pokeheartgold.us.nds and pokesoulsilver.us.nds), so you can confirm your build matches byte-for-byte.
Is this the same as pret's pokeheartgold repo?
It's a fork that reuses pret's original tooling, but it's an independent, unaffiliated project — pret doesn't endorse it and asks not to be contacted about it.
Which games does this cover?
It builds the US versions of both Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver.
