Why Unlisted

Right now, sites you've never heard of list your name, address, phone number and relatives. Anyone can look you up, including a stalker or a scammer who needs one convincing detail.

Companies will remove you for about $96 to $129 a year. Much of that work is sending requests you already have the legal right to send yourself, and in many places brokers have to honor them for free.

Over 500,000 Californians signed up for the state's free deletion tool in its first eight months. People want this. The rest of the world just doesn't have a free button.

So here's one.

Paid removal services Doing it by hand Unlisted
Price About $96 to $129 a year Free Free
Your data On their servers With you Encrypted on your drive
Sending requests Done for you You, 900 times Done for you
Deadlines and replies Handled for you A spreadsheet Tracked, and read by rules or AI
Web forms and CAPTCHAs Often done for you You You, with your details ready to copy
Account needed Yes No No

Paid services do real work, especially on forms. If you'd rather pay to never think about it, they're a fair choice. Unlisted is for everyone else.

What it does

The real app: choosing data brokers, reading the request, sending five requests, then reading a reply where an outside link gets flagged as not the broker's site.

The real app, recorded with a made-up person and a mail server on the same PC. No email left it.

Sends the requests

Tracks every broker

Overview screen with a made-up person: 38 removed, 78 waiting, 6 needing attention and $0 cost, a progress bar and a list of what to do next.

Reads the replies

Replies screen: a broker asks the person to verify at an outside address. Unlisted reads it as needing confirmation and flags the link as not their site.

Finds what's out there

Get it

One zip, attached to the latest release. It carries Main.exe, its update settings and the Unlisted runtime, so nothing else has to be installed:

System File
Windows 10 and 11 personal-data-deletor-osint.zip

Unpack the whole folder and start Main.exe. No installer, no admin rights.

Main.exe is code-signed, so Windows starts it without a warning. Keep Unlisted next to it: they ship together.

A USB drive window holds Unlisted.exe and its data folder. A double-click opens Unlisted with the title: Nothing to install.

Your data lives in an UnlistedData folder next to the app, encrypted with your passphrase. Lose the stick and nobody can read it. Forget the passphrase and neither can you, because there's no reset.

You'll need an email account with an app password. Use a separate address if you'd rather keep your main inbox out of this.

Build from source:

npm install
npm run app

Run the tests:

npm test

Bring your own AI

Unlisted has no AI server and never will, so there's nothing to pay us for. AI is optional, and everything works without it.

Option What you need Where replies go
Off Nothing. Built-in rules read replies Nowhere
Local model Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp Nowhere
Your own key OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Groq or similar To the provider you chose, who bills you

AI reads replies and drafts your answers. It can't send anything, click anything or change a case without you. Before text goes to a cloud provider, Unlisted swaps your name, emails, phones and addresses for placeholders. Anything else in the reply is sent as written, so use a local model for total privacy.

If a broker writes "ignore your instructions" in a reply, the worst it can do is produce a wrong suggestion that you see first.

What it won't do

Straight talk, because this is your privacy:

What's been tested

The core, the mail code and the full app flow have automated tests, including real SMTP and IMAP conversations with servers on the same PC. It hasn't yet been run against live brokers, a real Gmail account or a real Windows PC. Expect some broker addresses to bounce: the list comes from public records, and companies change them. Bounces get flagged so you can use the form instead.

FAQ

Is it actually free? Yes. There's no server to pay for and no paid tier. The code is MIT.

Why would a broker listen to me? In the EU, UK, California and a growing list of US states, the law gives you the right to delete. Regulators can fine brokers that ignore it.

Won't writing to brokers give them my email? It can. That's the honest trade-off of every removal tool. Use a separate address for this, keep your phone and address out, and start with the people-search sites that already expose you.

Do I live in California? Use the state's free DROP tool first. It covers every registered broker in one request. Unlisted then helps with what it misses.

Where's my data? In one encrypted file next to the app. Unlisted has no server, no accounts and no analytics. It connects only to your mail provider, the AI you choose, and the sites you ask it to check.

Is this enough if I'm in danger? No. If someone is stalking or threatening you, please talk to a specialist support service too, because removal alone won't keep you safe.

Roadmap

Make it better

Star it if you think your address shouldn't be for sale. Open an issue when a broker's address bounces or its form moves: that's the most useful help there is.

Credits and license

Unlisted's code is MIT. It stands on open data and open-source work, listed in CREDITS.md. It isn't affiliated with any broker, service or regulator named here.

Searching Database…

What is this?Unlisted asks data brokers to delete you, tracks every deadline and reads their replies. It sends the requests from your own email to 970 brokers, runs on your PC and costs nothing.
Is it a program I install or an online service? It is a portable Windows app: you unzip it and run it. There is no installer, no account and no server.
How do I get it running?Download the zip from the latest release, unpack the whole folder and start Main.exe. Keep Unlisted next to it, since they ship together.
What do I need before I start? An email account with an app password, because the requests go out from your own address. A separate address is suggested if you want to keep your main inbox out of it.
Does it fill in web forms for me?No. It won't solve CAPTCHAs or fill forms. About 160 brokers only accept web forms, so the app opens each form with your details ready to copy and you do the clicking.
Does it work on Mac or Linux? The README lists only Windows 10 and 11, so this is a Windows-only app.
How is it different from paid removal services? It is free, keeps your data encrypted on your own drive and needs no account. Paid services do more of the form work for you, which is worth it if you would rather not think about it.
Does it send anything without asking me first? No. You see every letter before it goes out, and the AI cannot send, click or change a case without you.
What happens if I forget my passphrase?Nobody can recover the data, including you, because there is no reset. The encrypted files stay unreadable.
What has been tested so far?Automated tests cover the core, the mail code and the full app flow, including real SMTP and IMAP runs on the same PC. It has not yet been run against live brokers, a real Gmail account or a real Windows PC.
