What is this?
An unofficial study replica of the character animation on the Grok Bot.app v0.18.0 login page — a spring-driven character engine rebuilt for learning how its state machine, spring motion and polygon eyes work.
Is it an app I install, or something I open in a browser?
Not an installable app — a static web page of plain HTML and JavaScript. The engine is split into study modules under replica/src/: character, pose, tricks, eyes, fx, math, tables.
How do I run it?
Open replica/index.html in any browser. That is the entire setup — nothing to build, install or configure.
Do I need Node, npm or any other tooling first?
No. The repo has zero package dependencies and no build step; the page runs as plain HTML and JavaScript straight from the file.
Can I use the character or its assets in my own projects?
No. The character design, trademarks, icons, geometry data and everything extracted from the app package belong to xAI — commercial use and redistribution are explicitly forbidden.
What settings did the original login-page character use?
The login page used sizePx: 64, color 'black' and shape 'blob'. The playground starts from the curious pose by design, and the login-rotation button replays the cycle from idle with poses changing every 1200ms.
How many different looks does the character have?
geometry-data.js defines 25 eye shapes (u3), 18 body shapes (Jo) and 11 colors (snt), covering the full range of expressions the original shows.
What is in the repo besides the live replica?
The extracted/ folder holds study snippets pulled from the main app package, extract-asar.js unpacks the bundle on demand, and assets/ has the static dock and in-app icons — trademarks, not part of the engine.
Does the character follow my cursor?
In the large preview, yes — pointer following is on by default there, but the source code itself defaults it to off.
