What is this?AnkiDroid is the Android port of Anki, an open-source spaced repetition flashcard system that helps you memorize anything more efficiently.
Is this a full flashcard app, or just a viewer for decks made elsewhere? It's a full-featured flashcard app: you can create, edit, study, and sync decks directly on your phone, not just view decks made on desktop.
How do I get started with it?Install the APK on your Android device (there's a signing certificate fingerprint to verify it), then you can start from scratch or grab one of over 10,000 premade decks.
Do I need an AnkiWeb account to use it?No account is required to study locally, but syncing your progress across devices requires an AnkiWeb account.
Can I write my own answers instead of just flipping cards?Yes, there's an optional feature to write out your answer instead of just revealing the card.
Is this only for Android, or is there a desktop version too? This repo is specifically the Android app; it syncs with the broader Anki ecosystem (desktop Anki and AnkiWeb) but is itself Android-only.
What kind of content can a card contain?Cards can include text, images, sounds, and MathJax for math notation, so study material isn't limited to plain text.
How does it decide when to show me a card again? It uses spaced repetition scheduling, now powered by the AI-optimized FSRS algorithm, to time reviews for maximum retention.
Can other apps send content into AnkiDroid?Yes, you can add cards via Android intents from other apps, like dictionaries, so you can create flashcards directly from content you're looking up.
Does it support text-to-speech for reviewing cards?Yes, AnkiDroid has built-in text-to-speech integration for reading cards aloud.
