What is this?
ice.js is a universal application framework based on React, developed by Alibaba. It ships routing, rendering (SPA, SSR, SSG) and build tooling out of the box for building web applications.
Is it a full framework, or a library I bolt onto an existing app?
It's a full application framework: file-system routing, state management and a request layer are built in, and you scaffold a whole new app with create-ice rather than adding it to existing code.
How do I start a new project with it?
Scaffold with create-ice: run 'npm init ice' (needs npm 6+), then start the local dev server. It sets the whole project up for you automatically.
What do I need installed before using it?
Just Node.js with npm 6+. Everything else — TypeScript, Less, Sass, CSS Modules, ES6+ — works with zero configuration, no extra setup steps.
Does it target the web only?
Mostly web, but not only: it also supports miniapps and Weex, so one project can reach multiple ends.
Does it support micro-frontends?
Yes — micro-frontends are listed among the project's core topics, alongside SPA and MPA support and serverless deployment.
Is it free, including for commercial projects?
Yes, it's MIT-licensed open source, so it's free to use in commercial products.
