YoutubeDownloader
What is this?A desktop app for downloading from YouTube: paste the URL of any video, playlist or channel and save it in the format you choose. It can also search YouTube by keywords for quick look-ups.
Is this a website, or a program I install on my computer?A program you install: a graphical desktop application that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Will it keep working, or does it break when YouTube changes things? It talks to YouTube through YoutubeExplode, an unofficial reverse-engineered client rather than an official API, so a change on YouTube's side can break downloads until a fix ships. Expect to keep the app updated.
Do I need to sign in with a Google account for downloads to work? Not for regular videos — downloads work without any account. Logging in with a YouTube account is optional and only needed to access private content.
What can it grab besides a single video?Whole playlists and entire channels: paste the URL and it works through everything. There is also built-in search by keywords, so you can look videos up and download them without leaving the app.
What formats and quality can I choose? You select the video quality and format per download, with MP4, WebM and MP3 as the target formats. Subtitles, alternative-language audio tracks and media tags are embedded into the files automatically.
Is it free, and who pays for its development? It is fully free under the MIT license, and development is funded entirely by the community rather than by ads or a paid tier.
