This is bugfix mod for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Volume 2 versions of MGS4 & MGS Peace Walker.


[!NOTE] This mod should be compatible with other ASI mods that use winmm.dll.

Installation

Steps:

  1. Grab the latest release of MGSPatriotFix from here.
    • There are two separate zips per release, one per game:
      • MGS4_MGSPatriotFix_<version>.zip for Metal Gear Solid 4
      • PW_MGSPatriotFix_<version>.zip for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  2. Extract the contents of the zip into the matching game's root folder.
    • (e.g., extract the MGS4 zip's contents into steamapps\common\METAL GEAR SOLID 4, the PW zip's contents into steamapps\common\MGS_PW.)
  3. Launch the MGSPatriotFix Config Tool (in the game's root folder) to generate a settings file.

Steam Deck/Linux Additional Instructions

Windows:

(This matches the configuration required for PCSX2. If your DS3 controller is already set up properly with PCSX2, then you're already good to go!)

The pad works out of the box without any additional software or drivers, but Steam needs to be told to prefer it.

Nightly Builds

[!NOTE] Experimental alpha builds containing the latest features and fixes are available on the nightly release page.

These builds may be unstable or crash unexpectedly. They are intended for users who want to test upcoming changes before an official release.

For the most stable experience, download the latest official release instead.


Building

cd MGSPatriotFix
git submodule update --init --recursive
git config submodule.recurse true

wxWidgets has nested Git submodules; git config submodule.recurse true ensures they are automatically updated to the correct commits when pulling.

wxWidgets, SDL3, and Zydis are built automatically as part of the Visual Studio build process. They can also be manually rebuilt from a Visual Studio Developer Command Prompt using build_wx.cmd, build_sdl3.cmd, or build_zydis.cmd respectively.

Build Requirements

Open MGSPatriotFix.sln in Visual Studio (2026) and build.

What is this?It's a bugfix and quality-of-life mod for the 'Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Volume 2' releases of MGS4 and MGS Peace Walker on PC.
Is this a separate program or a mod I inject into the existing game?It is a DLL mod loaded through the Ultimate ASI Loader via winmm.dll, not a standalone program; it also ships a small Config Tool to generate and edit its settings file.
Do I need anything extra for Steam Deck/Linux or DualShock 3 support?On Steam Deck/Linux you need ProtonTricks (installed via the Discover store) plus a WINEDLLOVERRIDES launch option; for full DualShock 3 motion and rumble on Windows you need DsHidMini set to SXS mode.
Will this conflict with other mods I'm using?It's built to be compatible with other ASI mods that also hook winmm.dll, so it can generally be used alongside them.
Does it work only on Windows, or on Steam Deck too?It supports both: Windows works out of the box, while Steam Deck/Linux needs an extra WINEDLLOVERRIDES launch option and ProtonTricks for the config tool.
What does the DualShock 3 support add in MGS4?Pressure-sensitive face buttons and triggers, rumble, and motion support for actions like shaking the controller to reset OctoCamo.
What bugs does it fix besides GPU selection issues?It fixes monitors going to sleep during long cutscenes on Windows and resolves a Windows fullscreen-optimization issue that hurt performance in the MGS1 flashback sequence.
Are the nightly builds safe to use?No, they are experimental alpha builds with the newest features and fixes but may be unstable or crash; the official release is recommended for a stable experience.
