What is this?
Atmosphère is a work-in-progress custom firmware (CFW) for the Nintendo Switch that replaces and patches core parts of the console's Horizon OS to add new features and customization.
Is this one single program or several separate pieces?
It is made up of five named components, each replacing or patching a different layer of the system: Fusée (first-stage loader), Exosphère (custom TrustZone), Thermosphère (EmuNAND support), Stratosphère (custom sysmodules), and Troposphère (application-level OS patches).
Is this finished and stable?
The project describes itself as a work-in-progress, meaning features and stability can still change between updates.
Why are the components named after layers of the atmosphere?
The project name 'Atmosphere' was suggested for a Horizon OS reimplementation effort, so its components were named after atmospheric layers like Thermosphère, Stratosphère, and Troposphère to fit the theme.
What does Thermosphère actually do?
Thermosphère provides EL2 EmuNAND support, letting you back up and boot from a virtualized or redirected NAND image instead of your console's real one.
