What is this?
A local automation script that auto-applies to jobs on Wellfound and Instahyre using Playwright, clicking through one-click applications in your own browser.
Is this a browser extension or a standalone script?
It's a Node.js/TypeScript CLI script that drives a real browser (Brave/Chrome/Chromium) via Playwright — not a browser extension or hosted service.
How do I run it for Wellfound or Instahyre?
Run the respective script (e.g. 'start:wellfound' or 'start:instahyre'), log in when the browser opens, set your filters/results page, then press ENTER in the terminal to let it start applying.
What do I need installed before running it?
Node.js 18+, pnpm, and a Chromium-based browser (Brave, Chrome, or Chromium) — if none is found it falls back to Playwright's bundled Chromium.
What jobs does it skip instead of applying to?
It skips jobs already applied to, external applications, listings with mandatory questions, and anything behind a CAPTCHA; it also leaves optional cover letter fields blank and takes a screenshot if something unexpected happens.
Does this work on any OS?
Yes — it works on macOS, Linux, and Windows.
Where does my browser session and login data go?
Your logged-in browser session is saved locally in a profile folder on your machine and reused on future runs, so you don't re-login each time.
Does it use AI to fill out applications?
No — the README explicitly states there's no AI and no backend involved, it's purely browser automation via Playwright.
How do I point it at my own Instahyre search?
Update the INSTAHYREJOBSURL constant in src/instahyre/selectors.ts with your saved filter URL from Instahyre.
What happens if Wellfound or Instahyre changes their site UI?
Since all site-specific logic is isolated in selector files (src/wellfound/selectors.ts and src/instahyre/selectors.ts), only those files need updating if a site's UI changes.
Is this free to use?
Yes, it's completely free with no backend or paid API required — it just automates your own browser session.
