What is this?
An open-source Chinese book that takes you from zero to real DevOps practice with Docker: core concepts, internals and hands-on skills for developers, ops engineers and architects.
Is it a book or a tool I install?
A book, not software: Markdown chapters you read online on GitBook or GitHub, download as a PDF, or serve locally with mdPress. Docker itself is the only thing you install to follow along.
How do I get hands-on quickly?
There is a five-minute quick start: install Docker, build and run your first container, then step inside one with: docker run -it ubuntu bash. Chapter 7 then teaches you to write your own Dockerfile.
Do I need to know Linux already?
Basic Linux knowledge is the expected starting point — the book addresses Docker beginners with that background, while advanced readers can jump straight to the internals chapters.
Is the auto-updating dockerpractice.pdf a formal release?
No — it is a preview built from the default branch and gets overwritten as the mainline moves; for stable versions use the GitHub Releases page.
Is there a reading path for my role?
Yes, a roadmap table maps roles to chapters: ops beginners read 1-6, developers 1-8 then 11, DevOps engineers add 13-14 and 18-21, and architects focus on 12-17 plus 18-19.
Can I read it offline?
Yes — PDF builds are published on the GitHub Releases page for offline reading, and you can also serve the book locally after installing mdPress.
Is the book available in English, or only in Chinese?
Only Chinese — the chapters are written in Chinese and the repo just adds an English tagline in the description, so non-Chinese readers need a translation.
What should I read after finishing this book?
The README recommends the printed companion 'Docker 技术入门与实战' (Docker in Action and Practice), now in its 4th edition and sold via JD and Tmall, plus series volumes on deployment engineering, agent infrastructure, LLM security and blockchain.
