What is this?Rspack is a fast Rust-based bundler for the web that modernizes the webpack API so it can act as a near drop-in replacement for webpack while building much faster.
Is it a standalone tool or part of a bigger toolchain?Rspack itself is the bundler, but it is one piece of Rstack, a broader unified JavaScript toolchain that also includes a build tool (Rsbuild), a library dev tool (Rslib), a static site generator (Rspress), a build analyzer (Rsdoctor), a test runner (Rstest) and a linter (Rslint).
How do I get it running in a project?Follow the Quick start guide in the docs to add Rspack to a project; the repo itself is built with pnpm (pnpm install then pnpm run build:cli:dev).
Do I need webpack knowledge or can I switch my existing webpack config directly?Since Rspack mirrors the webpack API and is compatible with webpack plugins and loaders, existing webpack configs and ecosystem tooling largely carry over.
Is it tied to any particular frontend framework? No, Rspack is framework-agnostic by design, so it doesn't lock you into React, Vue, or any other specific frontend stack.
What makes Rspack's dev experience fast?It has a built-in incremental compilation mechanism that makes Hot Module Replacement (HMR) extremely fast, even for large-scale projects, in addition to fast cold-start build times powered by Rust.
Does Rspack support Module Federation?Yes, it provides first-class support for Module Federation to help build large-scale, multi-team web applications.
What does Rspack use under the hood for parsing and minifying code? It's powered by the SWC project for code parsing, transformation and minification, and its concurrent architecture was inspired by esbuild.
What production optimizations come built in?Rspack ships with optimization strategies enabled by default, including tree shaking and minification.
What are similar projects?webpack, esbuild, oxc, browserify, closure-compiler, rolldown, bun, parcel
