What is this?CloudStream is a free, open-source Android app for streaming and downloading media. It works as an extension-based media center for phones and TVs.
How do I get it onto my device?Follow the Getting Started guide in the official documentation — it walks through installing and configuring CloudStream. The app itself is Android software you install on your device.
So where do the actual videos come from? Not from the app itself — CloudStream ships with zero sources. You install extensions to add content, for example for YouTube, Twitch, LibriVox audiobooks or iptv-org's public IPTV channels.
Anything I should know before installing extensions?Yes — recommended sources and apps are not officially moderated or endorsed by CloudStream, and the project asks users not to create or use extensions that host copyrighted media.
Is this a phone app, or can I put it on my TV too? Both — CloudStream runs on Android phones and on TV, and it supports Chromecast for casting to a bigger screen.
Does it track what I watch or show ads?No — the feature list promises no ads whatsoever and no tracking or analytics built into the app.
Can I use it on a PC, or is it Android-only?The main app is for Android, but the project's website lists setup guides for other devices too, including Android TV, Windows and Linux.
Can I write my own source extensions?Yes — the documentation includes a guide for extension developers, and the extension system is explicitly meant for personal customization.
What's the idea behind the project? It is built as a media center that puts complete freedom and flexibility for users and developers first: no ads, no tracking, and content controlled entirely by the extensions you choose to install.
