💻 System Requirements

📦 Installation

We recommend visiting the official website to download, as it offers multiple mirror links for a smoother experience:

Go to the Download page and choose the mirror suitable for your region.

Option 2: Install via winget

You can install WSLDashboard directly from the Windows Package Manager (winget), using either the moniker or the full package identifier:

# Search (case-insensitive)
winget search wsl-dashboard
# or
winget search WSLDashboard

# Install (pick one)
winget install wsl-dashboard
# or
winget install Owu.WSLDashboard

The winget package identifier is Owu.WSLDashboard and the moniker is wsl-dashboard (case-insensitive). Either works.

For more information, visit the WinGet community repository.

Option 3: Download prebuilt binary

You can also download the precompiled release directly:

  1. Go to the GitHub Releases page.
  2. Download the latest wsldashboard executable for Windows.
  3. Extract (if packaged) and run wsldashboard.exe.

No installer is required; the app is a single portable binary.

Option 4: Build from source

Ensure you have the Rust toolchain (Rust 1.92+ or newer) installed.

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/owu/wsl-dashboard.git
    cd wsl-dashboard

  2. Build and run:

    • For development:

      cargo run

    • Optimized release build, using the build script:

The build script requires the x86_64-pc-windows-msvc toolchain.

      .\build\portable\build.ps1

What is this?WSL Dashboard is a GUI manager for WSL built in Rust with a Slint UI, letting you install, start, stop, unregister, and configure your WSL distros from one place with a lightweight, low-memory footprint.
Is it a background service or an app I open?It is a standalone Windows desktop GUI application that can also minimize to the system tray and run silently in the background.
What do I need on my system to run it?Windows 10 or 11 with WSL enabled (WSL 2 recommended), a 64-bit CPU, and at least one WSL distro installed or permission to install one; 4GB+ RAM is recommended for smooth multi-distro use.
Does it work on macOS or Linux too?No, it is Windows-only since it manages the Windows Subsystem for Linux feature directly; there is no mention of a Linux or macOS build.
Is this free to use?Yes, it is open-source and free for everyone under the GPL-3.0 license.
Can I manage USB devices from WSL with this?Yes, it integrates with usbipd-win so you can bind, attach, and manage local USB devices across your WSL instances directly from the dashboard.
How much memory does the dashboard use?Silent tray mode uses about 10MB of RAM, windowed mode uses roughly 18MB for standard-font languages and up to 38MB for CJK languages like Chinese or Japanese.
Can I automate tasks inside my WSL distros?Yes, a built-in Task Scheduler lets you run scripts and commands inside WSL instances automatically at set times or intervals.
Can I mount and browse WSL disks from Windows?Yes, you can directly mount and unmount WSL instance VHDX virtual disks to easily transfer files between the host and WSL.
