Mainplane, with the biplane flying over the clouds

Mainplane is an open-source agent harness

The Mainplane TUI: a sidebar of sessions on different models, and an agent that moves a Qwen fine-tune from a GPU server to a Mac Studio and quantizes it to run there

Self-Hosting Quickstart

Run this command on your server machine (any always-on machine will do):

# Linux, macOS
curl -fsSL https://mainplane.ai/install | sh -s -- server quickstart

# Windows
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://mainplane.ai/install.ps1))) server quickstart

The quickstart walks you through adding a provider, workers (computers your agents control) and connectors (ways to message your agents).

What is this?Mainplane is an open-source agent harness: a self-hosted ecosystem for running AI agents that connect to your models, your devices and your messaging channels.
Is it a library I import, or something I run?You run it. It is a self-hosted server you start with a single command, and then you add providers, workers and connectors through the quickstart.
How do I get it running?Run the quickstart command on an always-on machine. It walks you through adding a model provider, workers (computers your agents control) and connectors (ways to message your agents). The full guide is in docs/self-hosting.md.
Do I need an API key or a subscription?Not strictly. You can use an API key with any model, or connect your regular Claude Code or ChatGPT Codex subscription to use its standard limits.
Does the server need Linux?No, mainplane-server runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. However, hosting shared file drives requires a compatible connected Linux device.
Does Mainplane share my data?Your chats are not shared by default. You can opt in to sharing data to help improve Mainplane in /settings.
Do I need Tailscale to connect my devices?No. Mainplane links agents and computers with fine-grained security controls, so no Tailscale is needed.
Can the agents use my real browser and apps?Yes. Mainplane drives your real browsers and applications with native computer use.
What is the shared file drive feature?It sets up a remote filesystem you can use concurrently without risk of de-sync between agents and devices.
