What is this?Driver Store Explorer (RAPR) is a free open-source Windows tool for viewing, managing, and cleaning up the Windows DriverStore — the system repository where Windows keeps driver packages. It targets advanced users and administrators.
Is it a graphical app or a command-line tool? It's a GUI app, not a CLI: driver packages appear in a sortable, searchable table with multi-select, color coding, and CSV export. Under the hood it can use the native Windows API, DISM, or PnPUtil as its backend, auto-detected.
How do I get it running?Download the ZIP from the latest GitHub release, extract it, and run Rapr.exe — or install it via winget. Building from source in Visual Studio 2022 is the third option.
What does my PC need to run it?Windows 7 or newer, .NET Framework 4.7.2 or newer, and administrator privileges — nothing else.
How risky is deleting drivers with it?It modifies the Windows driver store, and improper use can cause system malfunction, prevent Windows from booting, or break device functionality — the author discourages it for anyone unfamiliar with Windows internals. Back up your drivers before deleting anything.
Does it only manage drivers on the machine it's running on?No — besides the local machine, it can open the driver store of an offline Windows image. It also shows which connected devices are associated with each driver.
What does Smart Cleanup actually select? It automatically identifies and selects old or unused driver versions — a driver counts as old when a newer version of the same package exists on the system. Results may vary, so back up before removing.
What happens if I remove a driver for a device that's unplugged right now? Those drivers are shown with grayed-out device names. If you remove one, you'll need to reinstall that driver before the device works again after you reconnect it.
Can I delete a driver that is currently in use?Yes — force deletion exists for removing in-use drivers, though the README notes it may not work for print drivers.
Is the interface available in my language?Yes — the UI ships with 20+ languages, including RTL support, plus sortable columns, grouping, and flexible layout.
