awesome-macos-command-line README

The project's README from github.com/herrbischoff/awesome-macos-command-line. As one markdown file: README.md.

Awesome macOS Command Line / Awesome Command-Line Apps

Due to personal changes, GitHub changes, a desire of not wanting to continue to deal with mostly very low-effort contributions, entitled behavior and low quality, I've permanently moved these projects to my personal Git instance, where they will live from now on.

This is not least because of a substantially lacking readiness to donate even a single dollar — despite hundreds of daily visitors and almost 30k combined stars. Instead, these repositories are being linked to from large corporate intranets as a free source of knowledge, at times even from inside Apple. There have been two notable exceptions over the last six years: one donation to the NGO of a dear friend and a single GitHub sponsor for a couple of months. 100% were forwarded to the NGO as well. My thanks go out to you, you know who you are.

Available under the same license it has always been, you can still contribute and are encouraged to do so by sending a git am style patch via email. This is intentional to keep the lazy ones out and I much prefer working mostly in the shell. Please invest the five minutes to figure out how to if you think your contribution matters. You can clone this repository, you can find out my email address.

What is this?A curated awesome list of commands and tricks for doing useful things from the macOS terminal shell. It is a reference you read, not a piece of software you run.
Is this a tool I install, or just a list I read?Just a list: a Markdown reference of terminal commands and tips. There is nothing to install — browse it on GitHub or clone the repository and copy what you need into Terminal.
Any catch I should know before diving in?The GitHub repo is archived: the author permanently moved the project to his personal Git instance, so what is hosted here is a frozen snapshot, not a living list.
Who gets the most out of it — terminal novices or power users?Developers and power users who already live in the shell. Entries are raw commands to read and run yourself, so basic terminal fluency is assumed.
Does any of this work outside macOS?No — the whole list is built around the macOS terminal shell, and many commands either do not exist on Linux or Windows or behave differently there.
Is there a license, in case I want to reuse the content? It is 'available under the same license it has always been', but the license is never named and GitHub lists none — so nothing concrete is stated in the README.
Why did the author move the list off GitHub?He cites personal changes, GitHub changes, and weariness with mostly low-effort contributions and entitled behavior — noting that despite hundreds of daily visitors, nearly 30k combined stars and links from corporate intranets (even inside Apple), donations were almost nonexistent.
