What is this?
A community-maintained awesome list collecting ZSH frameworks, plugins, themes and tutorials — annotated links to hundreds of shell projects, curated since 2014 with about 18k GitHub stars.
Is this a tool I install, or just a directory I browse?
Just a catalog: one big README split into sections — Frameworks, Plugins, Themes, Tutorials — where each entry is a link to somebody else's repo with a one-line description. Nothing here installs on its own.
How do I actually get one of these plugins or themes onto my machine?
Open an entry's linked project and follow its own install README. Most people first adopt a framework such as Oh My Zsh or zgenom, then enable plugins through its plugin manager.
Is everything linked here vetted, or just collected?
It's an index, not a quality stamp: automated link checking in CI keeps entries from rotting, but plugin quality and upkeep vary, so check each project's repo before adopting it.
My daily shell is bash — is any of this for me?
No — everything here targets zsh only. If zsh is your shell (it's the default on macOS and common on Linux), this is the canonical shopping list; bash or fish users won't find equivalents here.
Which frameworks does it cover — is it all Oh My Zsh?
No — Oh My Zsh is one entry among many. The Frameworks section lists alternatives like Prezto, Zinit, Antigen, zgenom and zim, so you can compare before committing to one.
How big is the list, roughly?
It's one of the largest zsh indexes on GitHub: hundreds of plugins and dozens of themes on top of the frameworks and tutorials, with new entries arriving through pull requests.
Any must-know plugins in there?
Yes — community staples like zsh-autosuggestions, zsh-syntax-highlighting and zsh-completions are all listed, alongside small helpers for git, docker and other everyday CLI tools.
Does it help me learn zsh itself, not just tweak it?
Yes — the Tutorials section collects guides and learning resources for getting comfortable with zsh, so a beginner can start there before diving into plugins and themes.
