Chosen

Chosen is a library for making long, unwieldy select boxes more user friendly.

For documentation, usage, and examples, see: http://harvesthq.github.io/chosen/

For downloads, see: https://github.com/harvesthq/chosen/releases/

Package managers

Chosen is available through Bower, npm, and Composer, however, the package names are not the same.

To install with Bower:

bower install chosen

To install with npm:

npm install chosen-js

To install with Composer:

composer require harvesthq/chosen

The compiled files for these packages are automatically generated and stored in a 2nd Chosen repository. No pull requests will be accepted to that repository.

What is this?Chosen is a JavaScript library for making long, unwieldy select boxes more user-friendly. You include it in a web page and it upgrades standard HTML select elements.
Is it a full app or just a component I drop into a page?Just a component-level library: compiled files come through package managers and get included in your own page. There is no server or app to run.
How do I add it to my project?Install it through Bower, npm, or Composer — note the package name is not the same across the three managers.
Do I need jQuery to use it?It is built around classic JS stacks: Chosen supports jQuery 1.7+ and Prototype 1.7+, so you use whichever of those your project already has.
The repo is flagged deprecated — can I still use it?It still works, but this version gets no active development while the maintainers decide Chosen's future direction, and the repo is tagged not-maintained. Think twice before building something new on it.
Why use Chosen over a plain HTML select box?Plain long select boxes are painful to scan, and Chosen rebuilds them into friendlier, easier-to-use controls. The README itself does not list features — it sends you to its documentation and examples page for the details.
Does Chosen work with React or Vue?The README only claims jQuery 1.7+ and Prototype 1.7+ support — nothing about modern frameworks, and with development currently stalled that is unlikely to change.
Is it battle-tested?Yes. The project has been public since 2011 with about 22k stars, and the README notes contributions from over 50 authors after reviewing hundreds of pull requests related to thousands of issues.
