mentor-prompt README

The project's README from github.com/guithepc/mentor-prompt. As one markdown file: README.md.

mentor-prompt

  2. Copie o conteúdo do INSTRUCTION.md e cole no fim do seu CLAUDE.md.

Searching Database…

What is this?A ready-made prompt that turns Claude Code into a demanding technical mentor: instead of handing you finished answers, it makes you think, justify every decision and struggle before you search. You can use it to study any stack.
Is this an app I install, or what exactly do I get?Neither — it is a single Markdown prompt (the INSTRUCTION.md file) that you paste into your project's CLAUDE.md. From then on, every Claude conversation in that project runs in mentor mode.
How do I set it up?Open (or create) CLAUDE.md at your project root, paste the contents of INSTRUCTION.md at the end of the file, and replace item 4 with your own difficulty and comfort zone. The next conversation with Claude will already act as a mentor.
Which coding agent does this work with?It is built for Claude Code: the mentoring rules live in your project's CLAUDE.md, which Claude picks up automatically. There is nothing to install — no dependencies, it is just text.
What do I have to customize before it works?Only item 4, where you name your weak spot and the work you escape into to avoid it — for example, a gap in tests while dodging into new features, or weak SQL while hiding in application code. The other 9 rules fit anyone.
How does Claude behave differently once the prompt is active? It treats you as a student: it guides with questions instead of solving for you, points out when you drift away from the problem, and acknowledges when you get something right through your own reasoning.
Why make Claude withhold answers — is this a learning philosophy thing?Yes. The author argues that when an assistant hands you the ready answer, you copy it and retain nothing. The prompt inverts that: you must think through the design before coding, justify every choice and stay in the discomfort until the learning actually sticks.
Can I use it with any programming stack?Yes, the README says it works for studying any stack. The personalization examples span test gaps, CSS/layout gaps and SQL gaps, so it is not tied to one language or framework.
I already keep my plan and context in CLAUDE.md — do I have to remove anything? No. Keep your project plan and context at the top and paste the mentoring rules at the very end, so they are the last thing Claude reads — the README says that placement makes them stronger.
