2048 README

The project's README from github.com/gabrielecirulli/2048. As one markdown file: README.md.

2048

A small clone of 1024, based on Saming's 2048 (also a clone). 2048 was indirectly inspired by Threes.

Made just for fun. Play it here!

The official app can also be found on the Play Store and App Store!

What is this? This is the source code for 2048, a sliding tile puzzle game where you merge numbered tiles to reach the number 2048. It's a clone of 1024/Saming's 2048, which was itself inspired by the game Threes.
Is this a library or a playable game? It's a self-contained browser game built with plain JavaScript, HTML and CSS — not a library or framework. There are also official mobile apps based on the same game.
How do I play or run it?You can just play it online in your browser, or clone the repo and open the HTML file locally since it's a static site with no build step or server required.
Does it work well on mobile devices?Yes — contributors specifically added swipe handling for mobile touchscreens and even fixed swipes on Windows Phone, so touch controls are supported alongside keyboard arrows.
Does my score get saved if I close the browser?Yes, a contributor added best score storage so your high score persists between sessions.
Why did the author build this? The author made it just for fun, as a hobby clone of other similar tile games, and hosts it for free on GitHub Pages with no hosting costs.
Which topics is it in?gamedev, game, css, html, mobile, frontend, javascript, web, mit, open-source
