What is this?EverShop is an open-source eCommerce platform written in TypeScript, built with GraphQL and React — you self-host it and customize it into a tailored online store.
Is it a ready-made store I can deploy, or more of a framework to build one with?A complete platform rather than a library: it ships working commerce features out of the box, and its modular, fully customizable architecture is meant to be shaped via extensions and themes.
How do I get a store running? The official Docker image — a running store in minutes with nothing to install or configure. Then the evershop CLI finishes setup: evershop install, evershop seed for sample data, evershop user:create for accounts.
What if I'd rather not use Docker? Then you'd maintain a Node.js environment yourself — the Docker image exists precisely so you skip installing dependencies and configuring the environment. The installation guide in the docs covers the manual route.
Any gotchas I should know before betting a store on it?Operations are all yours: EverShop is self-hosted, and the managed EverShop Cloud is still being built, so hosting, updates and scaling a live store fall on you.
Could a non-developer actually run a shop on this? Not solo — it's designed for developers. Building a tailored store means writing TypeScript extensions and themes, so a non-technical shop owner needs a developer on hand.
Where does it actually run — dev laptop and production server?Anywhere Node.js runs — develop locally on macOS, Windows or Linux, and host production as a self-hosted web service on a Linux server using the Docker image or docker-compose.
What does the GPL-3.0 license mean if I build a business on it?It's free and open source under GPL-3.0, a copyleft license — you can use and modify the platform, but derivative work carries the same terms. Worth reading closely before keeping customizations proprietary.
Is there a live demo I can poke before installing anything?Yes — the README links a demo store you can log into right away with [email protected] and the password 123456.
What commerce features do I get out of the box?The README promises essential commerce features but doesn't itemize them. The demo store and the docs are the honest way to see exactly what ships before you commit.
How do I customize the storefront or add new features?Through themes and extensions: the docs have dedicated theme-development and extension-development guides, and the evershop CLI includes commands like theme:active for switching themes.
Why build a new e-commerce platform from scratch? The README calls it a mission to set a new standard for modern eCommerce — an open, TypeScript-first take on Node.js commerce. EverShop Cloud, a managed offering, is being built as the next step.
