What is this?
DrawDB is a free online editor for database entity-relationship diagrams: you sketch your schema visually in the browser and turn it into SQL. No account needed.
Is it a website or something I have to install?
It is a web app that runs in your browser — nothing to install for normal use. Developers can also run it locally with Vite (npm run dev) or deploy it with Docker.
How do I get it running?
For everyday use, just open it in your browser and start drawing. To build it yourself, use the documented local development setup (npm run dev via Vite) or the provided Docker build.
Do I need an account or an API key to use it?
No account is needed — you can build diagrams, export and import SQL scripts, and generate migrations without signing up, and nothing in the README asks for an API key.
Any catch — can I share my diagrams with teammates?
Sharing is optional and off by default: you must set up the server and configure the environment variables from .env.sample. Otherwise your work stays in your own browser.
Which databases can it generate SQL for?
It covers PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server and Oracle (all listed in its repo topics), and the README confirms SQL script export and import plus migration generation.
Can it import an existing schema, or only create new diagrams?
SQL import is built in alongside export, and the project depends on @dbml/core — the reference parser for DBML, a popular schema markup language — so DBML is supported too.
What is it built with?
A React app bundled with Vite: Semi UI components, a Monaco editor for SQL editing, dnd-kit for drag-and-drop diagram editing, and Dexie for IndexedDB storage in your browser.
How mature is the project?
Fairly: created in July 2023 with about 40,000 GitHub stars, CI workflows for builds and Docker images, and a Discord server for community support.
