What is this?
The official home of .NET release notes and news: a table of every version under active support or development, with release dates, support phases, latest patch versions, and links to the full notes.
Is this where I download .NET, or just the notes about each release?
Just the documentation side: this repo tracks releases, support policies and announcements, while the actual binaries and installers live behind links it provides.
Okay, so how do I actually install .NET?
Follow the links in this README: the installation docs and the dotnet-install scripts, which let you set up the SDK or runtime from the command line.
Is .NET 11 out yet?
Not in final form. The table lists 11.0.0-rc.1 as the latest build, with the .NET 11 release date set for November 10, 2026 — until then, .NET 10 is the newest stable release.
Can I find notes for older, out-of-support versions here?
Yes — notes are archived per version in folders like release-notes/10.0/10.0.12/, and even previews get their own path, such as release-notes/11.0/preview/rc1/.
Does this repo contain the .NET source code?
No. It holds release notes, support policies and maintenance automation — PowerShell is its main language. The runtime and SDK code lives in the other repos of the dotnet organization.
