Contributors

Thank you to the entire Continue community for helping us create a pioneering coding agent.

What we built together pushed the boundaries of what AI developer tooling could be.

We hope this codebase continues to serve as a foundation for others.

What is this?Continue is an open-source coding agent that ships three ways: as a CLI, a VS Code extension, and a JetBrains plugin.
Is this one app or several separate tools? It is not a single app — it is the same coding agent packaged as a standalone CLI, a VS Code extension, and a JetBrains plugin.
How do I get it running?Install whichever form fits your workflow — the VS Code extension, the JetBrains plugin, or the CLI — then use the Continue Docs to configure and customize it.
Is this project still being developed? No — the repository is no longer actively maintained and has been made read-only for everyone after a final 2.0.0 release across all three products.
Should I use the CLI or the JetBrains plugin? The maintainers explicitly recommend using the Continue CLI over the JetBrains plugin.
Why was Continue discontinued? The team did a final 2.0.0 release across the VS Code extension, CLI, and JetBrains plugin, then froze the repo to read-only, leaving the codebase as a foundation for others to build on.
What changed in the final 2.0.0 release? It removed anonymous telemetry, pulled out authentication, and squashed a number of bugs across all three products.
Can I still get support or updates for Continue? No active development or support should be expected since the repository is now permanently read-only.
