What is this?
PiliPlus is a free, open-source third-party client for Bilibili, the Chinese video platform, built with Flutter — an alternative app for browsing videos, anime and live streams with more features than the official app.
Do I need a Bilibili account to use it?
You can log in — regular, cookie-based, or via Geetest captcha and SMS codes on Windows/Mac — but it also works logged out: guest mode shows recommendations anonymously and incognito mode plays videos as if you weren't signed in.
Is there anything the official app can do that this one can't?
A few things: HD picture quality is not unlocked, hardware acceleration depends on your device model, and audio quality and decoder options vary per video. Danmaku, subtitles, speed control and picture-in-picture are all covered.
Is this just an Android app, or does it run on desktop too?
The README checklist covers Android, iOS and iPad, Windows and Linux, and Win/Mac login support is also listed, so macOS works too. CI workflows build releases for Android, iOS, Linux, Mac and Windows.
Can I download videos to watch offline?
Yes — offline caching and playback is a headline feature, alongside watch later, viewing history and full favorites management: create, edit, delete, copy, move, sort and multi-select delete.
What features does it have that the official app lacks?
Super-resolution upscaling, SponsorBlock sponsor-segment skipping, DLNA casting to a TV, AI translation of original audio, video-to-GIF export, merged danmaku and member-colored danmaku, WebDAV backup and restore of settings, and feed filtering that hides commerce and spam posts.
What are the video player controls like?
Gesture-driven: double-tap to seek or pause, vertical swipe for brightness and volume, horizontal swipe to seek with a thumbnail preview, and long-press for 2x speed. There's also playback-position memory, subtitle and danmaku size controls, picture-in-picture and a highlight-marking progress bar.
Can I manage my Bilibili account from inside the app?
Yes, extensively: create and edit favorites and follow groups, manage watch later and history, send private messages with images, post dynamics and comments with rich text, emojis and @-mentions, edit your profile, remove followers, and use multiple accounts.
Is this related to the pilipala project?
Yes — it descends from that lineage: the author credits guozhigq/pilipala as the original and orz12/PiliPalaX as the upstream, saying this repo takes 'more aggressive modifications'. It is essentially a further-developed fork with its own long feature list.
