DeepSeek Harness Desktop packages the official DeepSeek Harness Web experience as a standalone desktop application. It removes the need to start the CLI manually or manage local ports while preserving the full Harness interface.

This project focuses on desktop hosting. It does not fork, modify, inject into, or reimplement the Harness UI. Models, sessions, settings, plugins, and agent capabilities remain provided by the official @deepseek-ai/dsh package.

[!IMPORTANT] This is an unofficial community wrapper and an early-stage project. It depends on the rapidly evolving @deepseek-ai/[email protected]. The macOS builds are not Apple-notarized, and the Windows builds are not commercially code-signed.

Why this project exists

DeepSeek Harness already provides the complete agent runtime and Web UI. This project supplies the host capabilities required for a desktop product:

Features

Plugin market

Open Settings → Plugin Market to browse and search the community catalog, inspect plugin sources, and install, update, disable, or remove plugins. The catalog is fetched live from awesome-dsh-plugin.com, while package changes use the official dsh plugin --profile web workflow and remain in your local DSH profile.

The desktop package includes [email protected] and a compatible pnpm runtime. Market-triggered process restart is disabled because application lifecycle remains owned by the desktop host; refresh the page or restart DeepSeek Harness Desktop when a plugin indicates that a restart is required.

SSH and remote operations

For optional SSH access, search for dsh-ssh-ops in Settings → Plugin Market. It provides SSH terminals, SFTP, port forwarding, batch commands, and database connections. The plugin has been verified to load with the DSH version bundled by this project.

SSH access is not enabled or installed by default because it handles remote credentials and can execute commands on other machines. Review the plugin source and requested permissions, install it only when needed, then restart DeepSeek Harness Desktop after installation.

[!WARNING] Catalog entries are community-maintained third-party code, not endorsements by DeepSeek or this project. Installed plugins run locally with your user permissions and may access data available to Harness. Review the source, publisher, permissions, and build-script warning before installing.

Installation

macOS

The macOS builds are integrity-signed but are not Apple-notarized. On first launch:

  1. Open the DMG and drag DeepSeek Harness into Applications.
  2. Try to open the app; if macOS blocks it, click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  4. Find DeepSeek Harness in the Security section and click Open Anyway.
  5. Confirm by clicking Open once more.

This confirmation is normally required only once.

Windows

The Windows installer is not commercially code-signed. If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.
  3. Complete the setup wizard.

Known limitations

Upstream version and license

The project currently pins @deepseek-ai/[email protected] for reproducible packaging.

The desktop wrapper is available under the MIT License. The bundled DeepSeek Harness, dsh-market, and pnpm packages are also MIT-licensed; their notices are preserved under third-party-licenses.

This project is not affiliated with or endorsed by DeepSeek. DeepSeek Harness and related names belong to their respective owners. The application icon uses the black whale artwork from the upstream DeepSeek Harness Web favicon.

Searching Database…

What is this?A minimal desktop app that wraps the official DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web experience as a standalone application — you don't start the CLI manually or manage local ports, it just opens like a normal app.
Is this a fork of DeepSeek Harness or the official app in a desktop shell? It's the official Harness in a desktop shell: models, sessions, settings, plugins and agent capabilities still come from the @deepseek-ai/dsh package, while the wrapper adds hosting only — auto service start, window, packaging. It's an unofficial community project.
Do I need to install Node.js or the DeepSeek Harness CLI first? No. The app bundles the @deepseek-ai/dsh runtime plus pnpm and starts and stops the local Harness service itself on a random 127.0.0.1 port — no separate CLI or Node.js toolchain required.
Will macOS or Windows block it on first launch?Once, probably. macOS builds are signed but not notarized, so approve via System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. On Windows, SmartScreen appears because the installer isn't code-signed — click More info → Run anyway.
Which platforms get prebuilt builds, and which are missing?macOS gets DMGs for Apple Silicon and Intel, Windows x64 gets a Setup installer and a portable ZIP, and Linux x64 gets an AppImage plus a deb for Debian/Ubuntu. There are no Windows or Linux ARM64 builds yet; every release package is built on a matching GitHub runner and passes a packaged-app smoke test before publication.
Does the app update itself? No — automatic updates are not integrated, so you download new versions from GitHub Releases. The wrapper also pins @deepseek-ai/[email protected] for reproducible packaging, and upstream DSH is still an RC that may change rapidly.
Is there a plugin for working with remote servers over SSH?Yes — search for dsh-ssh-ops in Settings → Plugin Market. It adds SSH terminals, SFTP, port forwarding, batch commands, and database connections, and is verified to load with the bundled DSH. It's not installed by default because it handles remote credentials; review its source and permissions first, then restart the app after installing.
Is this an official DeepSeek product? No — it's an unofficial community wrapper, not affiliated with or endorsed by DeepSeek. The wrapper is MIT-licensed, and the bundled DSH, dsh-market, and pnpm packages are MIT-licensed too.
