About

Fincept Terminal is a native C++20 desktop terminal for financial research — Qt6 UI, embedded Python 3.11 analytics, one binary, no Electron.

Two editions run on one data core. Enterprise is the private, closed-source build the team develops daily, for funds, family offices and research desks. This repo is the free AGPL-3.0 edition — learning, personal use, academic research — shipping one release a month.

Use the open build if you're a student, hobbyist or academic. Use Enterprise if you're a firm, or if the terminal is how you earn: AGPL copyleft won't apply, and the open build's real cost is your own data and LLM bills, charged per token with no ceiling.

How this repo is maintained

This repo stays public and will not be deleted. Everything already released stays released.

It now ships one release a month rather than continuous development, because the team's daily work is on Enterprise. Issues and pull requests are still reviewed, and fixes land on the monthly cycle. Security reports go to [email protected].

Contributing

New data connectors, AI agents, analytics modules, C++ screens and documentation are all welcome.

License

AGPL-3.0-or-later — full text in LICENSE.

Free for personal use, learning and academic research. AGPL-3.0 is strong copyleft, not permissive: distribute a modified build, or run one as a service other people reach, and you must publish your changes under the same licence. For most legal teams that is the row that ends the discussion — which is why firms take Enterprise, which is proprietary and carries no copyleft obligations to manage. Personal, non-distributed use carries no obligations.

Fincept no longer sells a separate commercial or academic licence for this repository. Commercial, enterprise and university needs are served by Fincept Terminal Enterprise at the published prices above.

FinceptTerminal (Fincept-Corporation/FinceptTerminal)

Searching Database…

What is this?Fincept Terminal is a free, open-source desktop finance terminal in the spirit of a Bloomberg terminal: institutional-grade market analytics, AI research agents and trading tools combined in one application.
Is it a web app or a program I install on my computer? It's a native desktop application, not a web app: C++20 with a Qt6 interface and embedded Python 3.11, shipped as a single binary with no Electron and no browser runtime.
How do I get it running?Download a release installer for your platform: a setup.exe for Windows x64, an AppImage, .deb or .rpm for Linux, or a DMG for Apple Silicon Macs. There is also a build-from-source route via ./setup.sh.
Do I need to install Python or Qt first? Not for the installers: Python 3.11 is embedded and the app ships as one binary. Only building from source needs a pinned toolchain — CMake 3.27.7, Ninja 1.11.1, Qt 6.8.3 and Python 3.11.9.
What's the catch with the free build?Development is calmer than the feature list suggests: the open build ships one release a month because the team's daily work goes into the paid Enterprise edition. LLM usage also runs on your own API keys, billed per token.
Can I use it at work, or is the licence restrictive? It's AGPL-3.0-or-later, strong copyleft: fine for personal use, learning and academic research, but distribute a modified build or run one as a service and you must publish your changes under the same licence — which is why firms buy the proprietary Enterprise edition.
What can it actually do once it's installed?Analytics like DCF, portfolio optimisation, VaR/Sharpe, derivatives pricing and an 18-module QuantLib suite; 100+ data connectors (FRED, IMF, World Bank, Polygon, Kraken, Yahoo Finance); a visual node editor, MCP tools and an AI Quant Lab for ML and factor discovery; plus maritime tracking and geopolitical analysis.
How does the AI side work — do I have to pay extra? You bring your own LLM key — OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenRouter or Ollama — and pay per token on your own account, with no ceiling. The open build ships 37 trader/investor, economic and geopolitics agents.
Can I place real trades through it?The open build has a paper-trading engine plus 16 broker integrations with crypto and equity feeds. Live broker routing and live algo deployment are reserved for the paid Enterprise edition.
What does the Enterprise edition add over the free one?Private datasets with deeper point-in-time history, multi-agent deep research, live broker and algo execution, SSO/SAML, RBAC and support, at $10–$40 per user/month launch pricing — pitched against roughly $27,000 a year for a Bloomberg seat. The free build remains fully usable under AGPL-3.0.
