Wasmer is a blazing fast and secure WebAssembly runtime that enables incredibly lightweight containers to run anywhere: from Desktop to the Cloud, Edge and your browser.

Install Wasmer

Wasmer can be installed from various package managers. Choose the one that fits best for your environment:

Is Wasmer a tool I run apps with, or a library I embed in my code?

Both: the Wasmer CLI runs WebAssembly packages on your machine like lightweight containers, and the same runtime embeds into your own apps via Wasmer SDKs.

How do I install it and run my first app?

One command: a bash one-liner, Brew, Cargo, or PowerShell on Windows. Your first run can be 'wasmer run cowsay', or try it online at wasmer.sh without installing anything.

What can a program running inside Wasmer do on my machine?

Nothing by default: no file, network, or environment access unless you explicitly enable it — that is what makes it safe for untrusted code.

Does it work on Windows, or only on Linux and macOS?

All three desktops: there are official installers for Linux, macOS, and Windows, plus wasmer.sh to run it right in the browser.

What is WASIX, and do I need it?

WASI and WASIX are the system interfaces that let WebAssembly apps use OS features like files and networking; Wasmer supports both out of the box, with no extra setup.
