What is this? This package adds JSON Web Token (JWT) based authentication to Laravel and Lumen applications, so you can authenticate API users with tokens instead of server-side sessions.
Is this a full auth framework or just a token library? It is a PHP library distributed via Composer that plugs into Laravel or Lumen's existing authentication system as a guard/provider, not a standalone service.
How do I add it to my Laravel or Lumen project?Install it with Composer as 'tymon/jwt-auth', then follow the configuration steps (publishing config, generating a secret, setting the auth guard) documented on the project's own docs site.
Does it work with Lumen as well as Laravel?Yes, the package is built explicitly for both Laravel and Lumen; it has no other runtime dependencies beyond PHP and one of these frameworks.
Why use JWT instead of Laravel's default session auth?JWT lets the server issue a signed token on login that the client resends with each request, so there is no need to store session state server-side, which fits stateless APIs and mobile/SPA clients better.
Where can I find full setup and usage docs?Detailed documentation, including configuration and usage examples, lives on the dedicated jwt-auth.com site rather than in the README.
