Skill Cabinet

Skill Cabinet logo

A local catalog for agent skills installed on your machine. It scans user-level drawers such as .agents, .claude, .codex, .cursor (including plugins), Hermes profiles, and other ~/.* /skills folders, lets you read each skill and its frontmatter, and can delete or quarantine skill folders from disk.

Skill Cabinet: drawers, index cards, and a skill on the reading desk

Run

npx skill-cabinet

That starts a local server on 127.0.0.1 (port 3781 by default) and opens it in your browser. Bind only happens on localhost.

# from this repo instead of the npm package
npx github:subsy/skill-cabinet
# keep the current tab
SKILL_CABINET_NO_OPEN=1 npx skill-cabinet

# pick a port
PORT=4000 npx skill-cabinet

Requires Node 20+.

What it can do

Delete removes the skill from disk (folder, file, or link). There is no undo. Builtin Cursor skills and plugin-cache copies may come back the next time that tool updates.

Quarantine moves the skill off the live drawers without destroying it. It does not wear the delete stamp.

Keys: j/k move, / find, x mark, q quarantine, r restore, d delete.

Searching Database…

What is this?Skill Cabinet is a local catalog for AI agent skills installed on your machine. It scans drawers like .agents, .claude, .codex, .cursor, and Hermes profiles, lets you read each skill and its frontmatter, and can delete or quarantine skill folders from disk.
Is this a desktop app or a website I open in my browser?Neither exactly — running it starts a tiny local server on your machine that opens the catalog UI in your regular web browser, so there's no desktop installer or cloud service involved.
How do I get it running?Run it with Node 20+; it starts a local server on 127.0.0.1 (port 3781 by default) and automatically opens the catalog in your browser.
Does it need anything besides Node?Just Node.js 20 or newer. It's a JavaScript project built on Express and the yaml package, with no Python or other runtimes required.
Can I undo a delete?No. Deleting a skill removes it from disk right away with no undo, and built-in Cursor skills or plugin-cache copies can simply reappear the next time that tool updates.
Does any of my skill data leave my machine?No. The server only binds to localhost, so everything it reads from your skill folders stays on your machine.
What's the difference between quarantine and delete?Quarantine moves a skill out of every drawer an agent reads into ~/.skill-cabinet/quarantine without destroying it, and you can restore it later. Delete removes the skill from disk for good, with no undo.
Which skill folders does it actually scan?It scans user-level drawers such as .agents, .claude, .codex, .cursor (including its plugins), Hermes profiles, and other ~/.*/skills folders on your machine.
Can I navigate it entirely from the keyboard?Yes: j/k move between skills, / searches, x marks, q quarantines, r restores, and d deletes.
What does the risk filter look for?It flags static risk patterns detected in a skill's body text and lets you filter for elevated-risk skills, plus separately filter duplicate copies, broken links, and virtual references across drawers.
