Step 1: Download App

appstore     googleplay

Step 2: Install CLI on your computer

npm install -g happy

Migrated from the happy-coder package. Thanks to @franciscop for donating the happy package name!

Step 3: Start using `happy` instead of `claude` or `codex`

# Instead of claude, use:
happy claude
# or
happy codex

Step 4 (optional): Get the desktop app

Now on Mac desktop — download for macOS

Prefer a native app over the terminal? Download Happy for macOS — conversations beside the files, diffs, terminals, and previews your work actually touches.

How does it work?

On your computer, run happy instead of claude or happy codex instead of codex to start your AI through our wrapper. When you want to control your coding agent from your phone, it restarts the session in remote mode. To switch back to your computer, just press any key on your keyboard.

🔥 Why Happy Coder?

📦 Project Components

🏠 Who We Are

We're engineers scattered across Bay Area coffee shops and hacker houses, constantly checking how our AI coding agents are progressing on our pet projects during lunch breaks. Happy Coder was born from the frustration of not being able to peek at our AI coding tools building our side hustles while we're away from our keyboards. We believe the best tools come from scratching your own itch and sharing with the community.

What is this?An open-source client for AI coding agents: run Claude Code or Codex on your computer and control the session from your phone, web or desktop, with end-to-end encryption. The repo description also names Grok.
Is Happy its own AI, or a companion to agents I already use?It is not its own model — it wraps the CLIs you already have: launch 'happy' instead of 'claude' or 'happy codex' instead of 'codex', reusing the subscriptions you already pay for.
How do I get it running on my phone and my computer?Download the app (iOS, Android, web or the macOS desktop app), install the Happy CLI on your computer, then run 'happy' instead of 'claude'. The CLI was migrated from the 'happy-coder' npm package.
Does it need my own Claude Code or Codex subscription?Yes — Happy drives your existing Claude Code and Codex installs through a wrapper, so you need those agents and the subscriptions you already pay for; Happy itself adds no new plan.
Does the desktop app work on Windows too?No — the native desktop app exists only for macOS; on other systems you use the web app or the terminal. Also, taking over a session from your phone restarts it in remote mode.
What devices can I control my agent from?A native macOS desktop app, iOS and Android mobile apps, a web app, plus the CLI in your terminal — you can start at the computer and switch devices with one keypress.
My code is sensitive — does it pass through your servers unencrypted?Sessions sync through Happy Server, but the traffic is end-to-end encrypted, so code never leaves your devices unencrypted. There is no telemetry or tracking, and the code is open for audit.
Is Happy one app or several components?Five: Happy Desktop (native macOS app), Happy App (web UI plus Expo mobile client), Happy CLI (wraps Claude Code and Codex), Happy Agent (remote-control CLI to create, send and monitor sessions) and Happy Server (backend for encrypted sync).
What happens when I grab a session from my phone? The session restarts in remote mode and your phone becomes the controller; to go back to your computer, just press any key on your keyboard.
Why did the authors build this? They are engineers who kept checking on their AI coding agents from coffee shops and lunch breaks; the frustration of not being able to peek at side projects while away from the keyboard is what Happy was born from.
Can I manage agent sessions beyond watching the chat?Yes — Happy Agent is a separate remote-control CLI that can create, send and monitor sessions, on top of the phone, web and desktop views.
